Are you part of the gay and the gray? June Meeting
GLSO is bringing LGBT seniors together to talk about quality of life in Lexington for our silver treasures! You are invited to be part of this important conversation on Thursday, June 20, 2013 at 7:00pm at the Pride Center on 389 Waller Avenue, Suite 100, Lexington, KY 40504.
This is nothing fancy or formal. As a matter of fact, we invite you to bring a covered dish to share with the group, put your feet up, and simply tell your story.“We know there are many LGBT older adults living in Lexington; we just don’t know who they are. It is easy for them to be over looked by aging services, because many still assume that people over a certain age are all straight. It will be very important to hear from our LGBT elders about what is good in their lives, and what they might have a need for. We should never assume we know what is best for someone else; we should listen to what they tell us.” Troy Johnson, MSW, Director of Programs and Services for the Nursing Home Ombudsman Agency and Chair of the Bluegrass Elder Abuse Prevention Council If you are over 55, gay, lesbian, bi, or trans, we want to hear from you! We want to know how you are doing, and what concerns you might have about life as a senior in Lexington. Finally! Professionals in aging services are beginning to take an interest in the concerns of Lexington’s LGBT seniors! We hope to learn from each other and teach them how to better address our needs and concerns. We hope to see you soon. Ginger Moore-Minder859-253-0061ginger@glso.org
